Trust and compliance
Answers to the questions you should ask before letting AI mark student work.
POPIA-aligned
ExamMark operates as a data processor under POPIA. The school is the data controller. We process student work only as long as needed to mark it, and we publish our processing register on request.
The school decides what gets uploaded, when it gets deleted, and who can access the data. We act on your instruction. Our data processing agreement is available on request.
Annotated scripts
Every marked script comes back with ticks, crosses, and question-level commentary in place — not a spreadsheet of totals. Download a PDF that reads like a paper marked by hand, with the AI reasoning attached for moderation.
The output you hand back to a student looks like a paper a Subject Matter Expert marked: inline ticks, crosses, and comments against the answers — not a separate mark sheet. The AI reasoning is attached in the audit JSON for moderators who want to see why each mark was given.
Analysis of results
Each batch produces a breakdown of class performance by section and question. See where students struggled, where the memo needed refinement, and where misconceptions clustered — turning marking into teaching signal.
Every batch includes a per-question and per-section breakdown: average marks, spread, common errors, and rubric points where the cohort struggled. Use it to inform re-teaching, moderation priorities, and memo refinement for the next paper.
24-hour grading
Upload a batch today, collect marked scripts tomorrow. AI grading runs overnight; Subject Matter Experts moderate in the morning. A full class set marked and signed off inside a day.
AI grading runs overnight on the batch you upload. Subject Matter Expert moderation happens in the morning through the flagged-paper queue. The promise is a full class set, marked and signed off, inside 24 hours — not weeks.
72-hour data purge
Every paper, transcript, and mark is permanently deleted 72 hours after you download the marked bundle. We retain anonymised pattern data and a billing record. Nothing else.
After 72 hours, the purge is automatic and irreversible. We do not keep copies. We do not use student work to train models. The only data we retain is anonymised question-level performance patterns (which question types were hard, which rubrics needed adjustment) and a billing record.
